La IX edizione di “Comporre Oggi” è un’edizione speciale, come speciali sono state e continuano a essere tante attività nel mondo in questo 2020 che ci spaventa ma ugualmente ci invita a nuove avventure umane. È un’edizione tutta online, su piattaforma Zoom, che è ormai divenuta un terreno imprescindibile di incontri e incroci culturali.
Con la manifestazione dell’anno scorso avevamo colmato una lacuna imperdonabile, che era stata l’assenza di figure femminili tra i compositori ospiti delle edizioni precedenti. Anche quest’anno non poteva mancare, dunque, una donna, Errollyn Wallen, che, pur essendo londinese da tempo, peraltro interpreta anche un ruolo di presenza extraeuropea, essendo proveniente dal Belize. Altra presenza in parte straniera, almeno per l’esercizio della sua missione didattica oltralpe e per gli ambiziosi e lusinghieri progetti che attua in diversi paesi del mondo, è quella di Michele Tadini. Ivan Fedele rappresenta, sì, l’Italia e le sue massime istituzioni in campo musicale, ma la sua internazionalità è cosa ben nota a tutti.
Abbiamo dunque puntato su una maggiore internazionalizzazione della manifestazione; ciò ci ha convinti a fornire anche un servizio di interpretazione simultanea italiano-inglese-italiano affidata a professionisti, grazie anche ad alcune funzioni di Zoom che permettono canali simultanei al servizio delle diverse lingue.
Le condizioni sanitarie purtroppo ci hanno fatto rinunciare oggi alle esecuzioni dal vivo, che dall’anno scorso si era deciso di affidare al gruppo sorto tra le mura del nostro Dipartimento di Musica Contemporanea, l’ExégemaEnsemble. Siamo certi che si tratterà solo di una sospensione delle attività dell’ensemble e che potremo riascoltarne al più presto le esecuzioni, sicuramente nella prossima edizione.
A tal proposito, vista l’esperienza attuale e valutando il valore aggiunto che per certi aspetti le risorse online presentano, stiamo già pensando di formulare le prossime edizioni in un formato misto presenza/distanza, che certamente allargherà le prospettive e le risorse di “Comporre Oggi”.
Delle formule delle edizioni scorse rimangono invece gli spazi esclusivi riservati a ciascun compositore, con una disamina in prima persona del proprio pensiero, della propria poetica, della propria produzione musicale, con ascolti e visioni di lavori registrati; infine, la tavola rotonda, con la partecipazione di tutti gli ospiti, dei docenti, degli studenti e del pubblico, un momento di riflessione e di discussione aperto, sulle questioni della didattica del comporre, sul senso della creatività in musica oggi e sul ruolo della musica nuova nella società contemporanea. La tavola rotonda – e questa è un’altra novità di questa edizione – prenderà avvio su tematiche proposte in forme originali dagli studenti di composizione del nostro Conservatorio.
The 9th edition of “Comporre Oggi” is a special edition to illustrate how special so many activities have been and continue to be in the world in this 2020 that scares us but invites us to new human adventures as well. It is an entirely online edition, on the Zoom platform, which has now become an indispensable terrain for cultural encounters and crossovers. With last year’s event we filled an unforgivable gap, which was the absence of female figures among the guest composers of previous editions. Also this year, therefore, a woman could not be missing: Errollyn Wallen, who, despite having been a Londoner for some time, also plays a role as extra-European presence, coming from Belize. Another partly foreign presence, at least for the exercise of his educational mission beyond the Alps and for the ambitious and flattering projects he implements in various countries of the world, is that of Michele Tadini. Ivan Fedele represents Italy and its leading institutions in the music field, but his internationality is well known to all.
We have therefore focused on greater internationalization of the event; this has convinced us to also provide an Italian-English-Italian simultaneous translation service entrusted to professionals, thanks also to some Zoom functions that allow simultaneous channels to serve different languages.
Unfortunately, the world health situation has forced us to give up on live performances today, which since last year have been entrusted to the ExégemaEnsemble, the group formed within the walls of our Contemporary Music Department. We are sure that it will only be a temporary suspension of the ensemble’s activities and that we will be able to listen to the performances again as soon as possible, hopefully in the next edition.
In this regard, given our current experience and evaluating the added value that in some respects the online resources present, we are already thinking of formulating the next editions in a mixed presence/distance format, which will certainly broaden the perspectives and resources of “Comporre Oggi”.
Of the formulas of the past editions, on the other hand, the exclusive spaces reserved for each composer remain, with a first-person examination of the composer’s own thoughts, own poetics and musical production, with listening and viewing of recorded works. Finally, the round table, with the participation of all the guests, teachers, students and the public; a moment of reflection and open discussion, on the issues of the teaching of composing, on the meaning of creativity in music today and on the role of new music in contemporary society. The round table – and this is another novelty of this edition – will start on themes proposed in original forms by the composition students of our Conservatory.
